On Friday night, 10th June, forty five Mokoia Intermediate students performed at this year’s Stage Challenge at the the Sir Howard Morrison performing Arts Centre. The students entered the RAW division: no props or sets, just a student choreographed and costumed sequence.
At the end of last year, interested students got together to decide on the theme: “mad science – just because we can, does it mean we should?” Since then small groups have worked on the different elements that went together to make the whole dance. It included robots, monsters, zombies, scientists, rocks and creepy dolls.
Director Glen Law was ably assisted by Anna Hay, Jenni Markotsis and Jess Gibbs.
Being the only intermediate performing on the Friday night amongst the high schools was daunting; but it was exciting to see what ex-Mokoia students were achieving and to give our current cohort inspiration for the future.
Mokoia Intermediate went away with awards in choreography and concept design.
Congratulations also go to Rotorua Lakes High School which received the School Community Award.
